We have had some critical construction issues with our “vintage” building that has led to us using Arnold Middle School for summer band at least until August 2nd. Thanks for being patient with us! This plan was just made recently, so I have delayed sending out logistics for this week.
Is your child ready for band?
Our drum majors made a fun video a few years ago with some helpful info
We begin full marching band rehearsals tomorrow, Wednesday the 24th. This will involve an 7am-11am block and from 12-3. Times for Percussion and Color Guard might differ from the band, please continue to refer to communication from your directors of those groups. Our campus is experiencing construction remodeling at this time, Students should bring a sack lunch to eat in the cafeteria from 11-12. Older students who drive might be leaving campus to eat lunch. Parents of younger students, please let your child know your expectations on riding with older students to lunch etc.
Beginning Wednesday July 24th, we will take over a week to acclimate to the heat by gradually introducing our outside rehearsals from 2 hours the first day to 4 hours on August 1st. Please prepare your student now by:
Each day your child should be wearing comfortable athletic shoes with socks, athletic shorts, and a cool dry fit t-shirt. Hats are beneficial to stay cool and protect from the sun and sunglasses are acceptable. No sandals, crocs, flip flops, or jeans please!.
Attendance- All rehearsals are mandatory and very crucial to your students’ (and our program’s) success. We are in full production mode for our fall competition show and there is no possibility to make up any instructional time that is missed. Please honor this with having your child present at all rehearsals. Excused absences are restricted to extreme family emergencies or personal illness. No absence should occur without prior communication to Mr. Gonzalez at guillermo.gonzalez@cfisd.net
Performance Assignments- All members of the marching band perform at rehearsals, football games and competitions. Some of our newest and/or less experienced members might be assigned an alternate field position for competition. These positions might be very temporary. This will be an on going evaluation and might be based on available positions. These assignments are based on but not limited to:
Attendance, Academic Eligibility, Musical Skill, Visual Skill, Work Ethic, Attitude, Quality and Punctuality of Video and Testing Assignments.
No matter what performance assignment is initially given, all members qualify for and participate in the Varsity Marching Band.
This year will be another amazing and memorable year in the Cy-Fair Band!
